Subject: Kid-Friendly Mardi Gras Ideas

_______________________________________________________

Hi there,

Mardi Gras, which means Fat Tuesday in French, takes place on the day before Ash Wednesday. Originally a Catholic celebration, the festivities don’t seem to hold as much of a religious theme today as it did in the past, other than the fact that it marks the last day before Lent.

Events celebrating Mardi Gras, including the infamous parades and carnivals are present all over the world, with the main two occurring in New Orleans, Louisiana and Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Although those two cities may be too much for a family trip, many smaller cities or towns also hold smaller, more family friendly celebrations that you can attend. Check your area for Mardi Gras celebrations that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike.

Mardi Gras’ historical and cultural history make for a wonderful learning experience for your kids. So, if venturing out into the crowds is a bit much for you, why not research some of the history with your children and create a Mardi Gras celebration of your own.
