Subject: Packing Up Holiday Decorations

_______________________________________________________

Now that the holidays are over, we’re both getting ready to pack up all our decorations.  We’ve got a few helpful tips to make it as painless as possible for you not just this year, but in years to come too.

-     Keep like items together in plastic totes.  Available in various sizes, you’re sure to find ones that fit your decorations and space. Buying colored totes (you can often find orange ones at Halloween and red ones in December) or labeling them makes finding them next year easy.

-     Short on space?  Organize your storage space by holiday.  Put Christmas items in the back and reorganize so that Valentine’s and Easter decorations are in the front, making them easier to get to when it’s time.

If you have a pre-lit tree, take down is a snap.  Remove your decorations, separate the tree pieces, turn them upside down so they’ll close up and stick them in the box!

Have a real Christmas tree this year?  Here are a few disposal ideas:

-     To keep the needles from getting all over your floor on the way out the door, cover it with a plastic tree bag first.  Next year, put the tree bag under your tree skirt and all you’ll need to do is remove the skirt and pull the bag up!

-    Find out if your area has a recycling facility.  If not, mulch it and use the mulch in the garden.

-    Have a fish pond?  Sink the tree into it and create an interesting and fun habitat for your fish.

-    Place it in the backyard or garden to be used as a bird feeder and refuge.

 -   Be extra careful to make sure all the decorations are removed to
allow the animals to enjoy the tree fully and without harm, if you
choose one of the last two.

Until next time, here’s to a great New Year for you and yours.
