Subject: St. Patrick's Day Craft & History

_______________________________________________________

St. Patrick’s Day is just a few weeks away and today we
wanted to give you a fun craft to do with your child to
celebrate!

Before we get to the fun stuff, here’s a bit of St. Patrick’s
Day history for you.

Did you know the person St. Patrick’s Day is named after
wasn’t even named Patrick? Nope, his name was Maewyn Succat.
Imagine if the holiday was call Maewyn Succat’s Day. Now
that’s a mouth full.

Green is the signature color of St. Patrick’s Day, but do you
know why? The color green really doesn’t have a specific
connection to the holiday except for the fact that shamrocks
are green, green symbolizes spring and if you don’t wear it
you’ll get pinched (which incidentally is something that
children started and has no real tie to St. Patrick’s Day).

Once you’ve got a bit of history down, it’s time to have some
fun! Make wiggling shamrock hats for everyone to celebrate
St. Patrick’s Day.

Wiggling Shamrock Hat

Supplies
Green construction paper
2 green stems (pipe cleaners or construction paper work well)
Tape
Glue
Stapler
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil
Heart shapes (anything to trace hearts from like cookie cutters)

Directions
- Trace 4 heart shapes lining up the sides of the hearts
together to form a ring of hearts. Cut out.
- Repeat above step 3 times.
- Make small snips between the hearts to show the petals of the shamrocks.
- Cut 2 strips of green construction paper 1 1/2 inches wide.
- Tape one end together and try on child's head. Cut and tape to fit.
- Cut stems to desired length.
- Staple one stem to each side of the green paper ring.
- Glue 2 shamrocks to the opposite end of each of the stems. Let dry.
- Place on your child's head and enjoy!

Don’t forget to make one for yourself too! We’ll be back
next week with some fun ideas to help mom and dad celebrate
St. Patrick’s Day. May the luck of the Irish be with you! ;)
